Bedford “Best of the Fest” – June 13-14, 2014
Known for showcasing the best in independent, inspiring film from all over the world every October, the Heartland Film Festival—presented by nonprofit arts organization Heartland Film—will offer moviegoers in Bedford, Ind. a chance to experience the festival atmosphere in their own backyard. Four indie filmmakers are scheduled to attend “Best of the Fest,” presented by Duke Energy, and will be available to mingle with attendees and provide insight on the filmmaking process. Director Andrew Cohn will visit Indiana for encore screenings of his documentary feature, Medora.
Filmmaker Bio
Andrew Cohn is a screenwriter and documentary filmmaker living in New York. His first feature-length film Medora premiered at the 2013 SXSW Film Festival and aired on PBS’ critically acclaimed Independent Lens series. He is also the creator and producer of the off-Broadway play FOUND: People Find Stuff. Now It’s a Show. In 2009, he directed the documentary-short Dynamic Tom which was featured on McSweeney’s Wholphin No. 12 DVD of short films. He has directed material for Comedy Central, Fuse and most recently, ESPN Films’ 30 for 30 series.
Heartland Film Interview
Heartland Film: You missed the Heartland Film Festival in October, but will be able to get the mini-fest experience in Bedford. Are you looking forward to being part of a Festival so close to the subject matter of your film?
Andrew Cohn: Yeah, it’s going to be great to share the film with the people of Bedford and Jackson County. I spent such a huge amount of time in Bedford while shooting the film, so it will be nice to share the movie with everyone in there. This will be the closest screening of the film to the town of Medora, so I’m sure I will see lots of familiar faces, which I’m really looking forward to.
Heartland Film: Give us an update on Medora since it was shown at Heartland in October. Any big news?
Andrew Cohn: The film has continues to play all across the country. It premiered on PBS’ great Independent Lens series in March, which was exciting, and PBS screened the film in an additional 50 cites, which was great. We also just reached a deal with Netflix, so the film will be available on their digital platform soon.
Heartland Film: Heartland Film Festival moviegoers love filmmaker Q&As. Let’s say a Summer Rewind attendee wants to earn some brownie points—what is a question that you’d love to answer, but haven’t yet been asked?
Andrew Cohn: I hope nobody asks me about The Hideaway Lounge in Bedford.
