In a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp in Burma, a group of British POW’s are charged with building a bridge over a nearby river to aid with the transport of Japanese munitions. The men, under the leadership of Colonel Nicholson, initially refuse the task, knowing it will only support the enemy’s cause. After consideration, however, Nicholson has his men take up the project in order to wile away the long hours in the camp and to keep his men sharp.
