Orphaned at a young age, Heidi goes to live with her crotchety old grandfather in the Swiss Alps. Before long, Heidi’s kindness and charm win over the old man and the two become great friends. Suddenly, Heidi’s conniving aunt comes into the picture, kidnapping Heidi and selling her into servitude with a rich family. Heidi makes the best of her situation, teaching the family’s crippled young daughter to walk. Meanwhile, her grandfather desperately searches for her.
