In 1997, Mama Jackey approached Nelson Mandela with a bold new vision to save the children of South Africa’s Lost Generation. Using a mixture of tough love and her unique shock therapy, Mama Jackey reaches out to 700 rape victims, drug addicts, rapists, and other criminals, ages 12-22. Over time, she gives them incredible hope as they began voluntarily coming every Saturday to her school, the Ithuteng Trust. Ithuteng, a word with many meanings, is most commonly translated from South Africa’s 11 national languages as “never stop learning.”
