Anna Leonowens leaves her beloved Great Britain to become a governess in the royal household of the King of Siam. She brings her young son, Louis, in-tow. Upon arrival, she is immediately perturbed by the lack of what she considers adequate housing. Similarly, King Mongkut is disturbed by Anna’s independent mind and her refusal to be at his beck and call. Over time, Anna and the King begin to overcome the personal, cultural, and political barriers that separate them.
