In 1937, a two-year-old boy is declared the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Buddhism. From that point, his life becomes not his own but one representing an entire people of the peaceful nation of Tibet. As a teenager, his country is invaded by the Chinese and the young leader is forced into meaningless meetings with a country who doesn’t acknowledge Tibet’s freedom. Eventually, the Dalai Lama retreats to India where, ill and under siege, he remains in exile.
