It’s 1183, and King Henry II of England finds himself in the unenviable position of choosing a successor to his throne. He invites his family home for Christmas: his imprisoned but conniving wife Eleanor of Aquitaine and his three sons. Added to the mix are his mistress Alais, whose brother happens to be King Philip of France. As Henry struggles to sort out the suitors to his throne, the interested parties each fumble and plot to place themselves at the head of the line.
