A kindly old man named Kris Kringle takes over at the last minute as a department store Santa. He succeeds brilliantly at the position because he believes himself to actually be Santa Claus. While seemingly harmless, many have misgivings about Kris, and before long, he finds himself on trial to avoid being institutionalized.  A young lawyer comes to Kringle’s defense, arguing that Kringle really is Santa Claus, or at least, that believing he is is a perfectly acceptable fantasy.
