Mr. Dashwood dies he is forced to leave his estate to his only son from a first marriage, leaving his current wife and three daughters, Elinor, Marianne and Margaret, with next to nothing. Elinor soon finds herself enamored with the wealthy Edward Farrers while Marianne falls for the dashing Mr. Willoughby. Both endure heartbreak when Elinor learns of Edward’s secret engagement and Willoughby cooly ignores Marianne at a party in London.  As the confusion and miscommunication mounts, the women eventually realize that being true to one’s heart is not only sensible, but necessary as well.
