From his early childhood, David demonstrated a talent for mathematics, chess and piano. Yet all of these gifts were not enough for his tyrannical and overbearing father, who demanded nothing but perfection from his son. After rejecting a scholarship to study violin at his father’s demand, David briefly studies in London under Cecil Parks. During a performance of the difficult “Piano Concerto No. 3” by Rachmaninoff, David suffers a nervous breakdown. He is reduced to nothingness, eventually making ends meet playing in a local bar.
