In this exotic musical, it is 1943 and the United States has established several military bases on Pacific Islands, preparing for war. The soldiers and natives on one particular island find themselves in a story that plays out at times whimsically and at times dramatically. Nellie Forbush is a young nurse from Little Rock who meets the dashing Emile de Becque, a wealthy planter. The two find love, but life interferes when war looms ever closer to their island.
