General Frank Savage must take command of a “hard luck” bomber group. Savage struggles to whip his group into a disciplined fighting unit in spite of heavy losses, but is able to eventually show the pilots how to take pride in their unit and their service.  Through his unconventional guidance and in the midst of dire circumstances, the unit learns to serve well above and beyond the standards of the Army Air Corps.
