Universal Studios’ major motion picture release Unbroken has been recognized with the Truly Moving Picture Award by nonprofit arts organization Heartland Film. The film is directed and produced by Academy Award® and three-time Golden Globe Award winner Angelina Jolie.
“Based on a true story, Unbroken is an amazing story of heroism and the resilience of the human spirit,” said Tim Irwin, Heartland Film’s artistic director. “Highlighted by its cinematography and performances, the film will make an exceptional impact on its target audience and beyond.”
Jolie directs and produces Unbroken, an epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis “Louie” Zamperini (Jack O’Connell) who survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash during World War II—only to be caught by the Japanese navy and sent to a series of prisoner-of-war camps. Unbroken is adapted from Laura Hillenbrand’s (“Seabiscuit: An American Legend”) enormously popular book.
Unbroken opens in theaters everywhere on Christmas Day.
