Ready for a change, Dr. Kate Forester takes a job at a busy Chicago hospital. She’s reluctant to leave the beautiful Lake House she’s been renting. On a winter morning in 2006, she leaves a note in the mailbox for the next tenant and heads on her way. When the next tenant arrives, he sees a much different picture. Alex Wyler, a talented but frustrated architect, finds the lake house badly neglected. He sets to restoring the house, as it holds a special meaning to him, and disregards Kate’s letter. When something in her note catches his interest, however, he writes back.
